Privacy Policy
How we protect and handle your data in educational environments. Your privacy and the safety of student information are our top priorities.
Last updated: August 2026
Introduction
ClassCents (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting the privacy of educators and students. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our classroom economy management platform. We are designed specifically for educational environments and take student data protection seriously.
Information We Collect
We collect only the information necessary to provide our educational platform.
Teacher information
- Name, email address, and school/institution details
- Account credentials (passwords are encrypted and never stored in plain text)
- Classroom settings, currency configurations, and teaching preferences
- No payment information — ClassCents is free, and we do not collect or process payment details
Student information
- First and last names as entered by the teacher
- Virtual currency balances and transaction history
- Badge achievements, job assignments, and reward redemptions
- No email addresses, phone numbers, or personal contact information collected from students
Usage data
- Browser type, device type, and approximate location (country, region, city)
- Pages visited within the platform, and interactions such as worksheet downloads
- Your IP address is processed by our hosting provider to deliver the site and defend against abuse — it is not kept in our analytics records
- Error logs and performance metrics for service improvement
Data minimization: We only collect information that is directly necessary for providing our educational service. We do not collect sensitive personal information beyond what is needed for classroom management.
How We Use Your Information
Your information is used exclusively for educational purposes and platform operation:
- 1Providing and maintaining our classroom economy platform and features
- 2Managing user accounts, authentication, and authorization
- 3Processing transactions, rewards, badges, and job assignments
- 4Generating classroom analytics and reports for teachers
- 5Communicating about service updates and important account information
- 6Improving and developing new educational features
Analytics and Measurement
We measure how the site is used so we can improve it. We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or any third-party tracking service, and we set no tracking cookies — which is why this site has never asked you to accept any.
- Vercel Web Analytics counts page views and a small number of deliberate interactions, such as which worksheet PDFs are downloaded
- No cookies are involved. Visitors are counted using a temporary hash derived from the incoming request, which is discarded after 24 hours — it cannot recognise you on a later visit, or on any other website
- Each record holds the page address, the referring site, approximate location, and browser, operating system and device type. Your IP address is not stored
- Student page addresses have the student's identifier removed before the page view is recorded, so no student identifier reaches our analytics provider
- Vercel Speed Insights records anonymous page-performance measurements. It also uses no cookies
- None of this data is sold, shared for advertising, or used to identify an individual teacher or student
FERPA Compliance
- Student records are controlled by the educational institution
- Teachers act as authorized school officials managing data
- Parents/guardians maintain rights to student information
- Data is used solely for legitimate educational purposes
- Appropriate security measures protect student records
COPPA Compliance
- No direct data collection from students under 13
- Teachers and schools provide consent as educational agents
- Minimal data collection — only names and classroom data
- No targeted advertising or marketing to students
- No social features or direct student communication
- Full parental access rights supported through teachers
Information Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share personal information. Limited sharing occurs only when necessary:
- Vercel — application hosting, and the cookieless analytics described above
- Supabase — database and authentication hosting, where classroom and student records are stored
- Legal requirements when compelled by law or to protect rights and safety
- With your consent when you explicitly authorize sharing
- Anonymized, aggregated data for educational research (never individually identifiable)
Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest, secure authentication with password hashing, regular security audits and updates, role-based access controls, and automated backups with disaster recovery procedures. While no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure, we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information.
Data Retention
- Active accounts: data retained while the account is active and in use
- Deleted accounts: data is permanently removed within 30 days of account deletion
- Inactive accounts: accounts inactive for 24 months may be archived, with notice sent before any action
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access and review all personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Export your data in a portable format at any time
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@classcents.com. We respond to all requests within 30 days.
